The final choice of moulding process is decided after consideration of the engineering requirements, product complexity, cost limitation and output demands in order to meet the desired objectives. Millfield has both open and closed moulding options and uses technical know-how and professional experience to help their customers select from the following comprehensive range of choices:
- Hand-lay-up & spray deposition open mould processes which offer economical routes into GRP and processing and provide a flexible solution to product development, supported by low cost tooling and in-group pattern making resources.
- Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) a closed mould process creates a fully finished surface to the reverse side of the moulding with accurate control of laminate thickness. Good choice for medium series production.
- Vacuum-Assisted Resin Transfer Moulding RTM (VARTM) a closed mould process capable of manufacturing high performance and large-scale fibre reinforced polymer parts with low tooling costs.
- Reaction Injection Moulding (RIM) processes – a low viscosity liquid polymer thermoset process used to produce high volume production for more complex parts.
