Quiet Rooms

Millfield were approached to complete the design and build of a pod for a client of Architect Nicholas Alderson.

The client had multi storey offices with large open plan floors leading onto an atrium.

The brief was to create 18 spaces where scientists could reflect in a private room, hold meetings and take conference calls.  We needed to provide a fully functioning unit upon delivery which could be moved around the open space if required.

Environmental performance was high on the agenda.

The heater/chiller unit, electrics, sensor lighting, fire sensors, glass and acoustic panels were all fully installed in our factories.

The final instruction we were given was that they needed to be de-mountable to move to other floors. With each piece fitting through a normal doorway.

A lifting frame was specially designed and built by Millfield to assist in this operation.

The client is currently assessing the performance in a working environment prior to roll-out internationally.
